Common Clothes Dryer Problems

The luxury and joy of having your own clothes dryer can turn quickly to frustration is you're unable to get the appliance to work, or if it begins to work improperly. Issues with a dryer run the gamut. Similarly, some you can fix yourself and some require a professional. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Lint Trap

    • If you find that your dryer is no longer working as effectively as it once was, check your lint trap. You must clean this prior to each load to enable your dryer to work at its highest efficiency.

    No Power

    • If your dryer won't start, check the circuit breaker to see if it has been tripped. If it has, reset and try to start the dryer. If that doesn't work, check the electric cord to see if it is still plugged in. Last, you might need to have a professional replace the door switch.

    Not Drying Well

    • Check the exhaust vent to see if it it disconnected or has become kinked. If the vent is blocked in any fashion, the dryer won't work as efficiently and clothes will still be damp.

    Dryer Won't Heat

    • In this case, call a professional to check the electric or gas elements. The motor may be fine, but the heat source may need replacement.

    Dryer is Too Hot

    • It's likely that the thermostat needs to be replaced. Before calling in a pro, clean the lint screen and check the exhaust duct. If that doesn't resolve the problem, call in a repair person.
