Nervous Colitis Symptoms

Nervous colitis is simply another name for the common condition of irritable bowel syndrome. IBS, as it's often called, is a digestive disorder that affects the way in which the intestines work. Depending on the intensity of the condition, each person will have a variety of symptoms that range from relatively mild to fairly severe. Yet, no matter how the condition presents itself, it is usually more troublesome than dangerous. Of course, if left untreated, the symptoms of the condition may worsen.

Most people who are suffering from nervous colitis will experience a certain amount of cramping with the condition. Usually, this cramping will be in relation to a bowel movement.

Gas & Bloating

Another fairly common symptom of nervous colitis will take the form of gas. This will usually make a person feel bloated and experience some level of flatulence.

Constipation & Diarrhea

Sadly, many people who live with nervous colitis will experience episodes of constipation or diarrhea, as well as sporadic periods of both.

Stool Changes

When not suffering from diarrhea or constipation, a person with nervous colitis will usually see a change in the size and shape of her stool. It may be small and hard or long and thin.

Someone with a bit more intense nervous colitis will begin to taste an unsavory flavor in the back of his mouth.

Pain & Discomfort

Depending on the severity of a person's nervous colitis, she may begin to feel a certain amount of pressure and pain that is isolated to her lower back.
