Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum. This is a common condition that is chronic for some people. Hemorrhoids are either internal or external. Most hemorrhoids go away on their own, but some are so large and painful that surgery is needed to remove them. A few conditions cause hemorrhoids such as constipation, pregnancy and poor diet.

  1. Rectal Bleeding

    • A sign of an internal hemorrhoid is rectal bleeding. Internal hemorrhoids do not cause pain, but if you see blood on or in the toilet, this could mean that a vein in the anus ruptured due to straining.

    Pain

    • External hemorrhoids cause pain. The inflamed vein can be felt and seen. If a blood clot forms in the vein due to pooled blood, then the pain can be excruciating.

    Itching

    • This is a common symptom. If you feel any irritation in your rectal area, this could be a sign of an internal hemorrhoid.

    Piles

    • Hemorrhoids are also called piles and having one protruding from your rectum is a definite sign of an external hemorrhoid.

    Swelling

    • For some people the anal area becomes swollen and uncomfortable.

    Leakage of Feces

    • This is one of the most embarrassing of hemorrhoids symptoms because it happens unexpectedly.
