All states require valid identification such as a driver's license. Many states also require a birth certificate or a Social Security Number.
Fees

Fees for obtaining a license vary by state, and sometimes even by county. Fees may be as low as $18 or as high as $100. Some states have a reduced marriage license rate for couples who take a marriage preparation class.

Previous Marriages

Be prepared to share why previous marriages ended and to show documentation of divorce, death or annulment, especially if the marriage has ended recently.
