Different Pregnancy Symptoms After a Miscarriage

Some women may feel that they have different pregnancy symptoms after a miscarriage. The truth of the matter is that it is possible to conceive shortly after losing a baby; a lot of these feelings can also be due to the emotional and physical trauma of miscarrying.

  1. Significance

    • After a woman miscarries; she may still "feel pregnant." This is due to the hormonal levels still present in her body. It can also be attributed to the emotional pain of the loss she has just experienced.

    Time Frame

    • The body's level of returning to a "normal" hormonal state can vary from woman to woman. It will be based on how far along in the pregnancy the woman was as well as her own personal makeup. The emotional side affects all women who have miscarried, to varying degrees. There is no set time frame for when you should be better.

    Types

    • Different pregnancy symptoms after a miscarriage can include all the same ones that you felt when you were pregnant. You may also have twinges of feeling like the baby is still moving inside of you, or the muscles in your arms may start to literally ache. This is known as "empty arms" syndrome.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Though there are no right answers on how to make yourself better emotionally, you can alleviate some of the physical aches and pains. If your breasts fill with milk and are sore, use ice packs to make them dry up more quickly. To help the ache in your arms, cradle a baby-sized doll or stuffed animal. The weight may help your physical pain to ease somewhat.

    Warning

    • Though you may be tempted to try to conceive right away again, always talk to your doctor first about any dangers in doing so. She will be able to tell you when it is safe. The pregnancy symptoms that you feel after a miscarriage are normal, but if you have any concerns, consult your medical practitioner right away.
