Foods With Low Carbs & Fat

Some carbohydrates and fats are necessary in our diet, however not all carbs and fats are created equal. Some types are better than others, and controlling your intake of healthy carbs and fats will help you succeed in losing weight and keeping your body trim and healthy. If you're watching your carbs and fat, there are some foods you can indulge in guilt-free.

  1. Vegetables

    • Vegetables are naturally low in fat, and most dark green and leafy vegetables are very low in carbs. You can enjoy large quantities of them without worrying.

    Berries

    • If you have a sweet tooth, satisfy it with a snack of fresh berries. Most berries, such as raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, are among the lowest carb fruits and contain less than a gram of fat per serving.

    Poultry

    • If you're looking for a meat dish, opt for chicken. Fresh, unprocessed chicken contains no carbs and is much lower in fat than beef, particularly the breast meat (less than 3 grams per serving).

    Fish

    • All fish is naturally low in carbs, and some fillets are also low in fat, particularly trout, tilapia, sole, cod and whiting. Even fish with a higher fat content, such as salmon, are higher in healthier fats and still a good choice.

    Tofu

    • A heart-healthy protein made from soy, tofu can replace meat in many recipes. Tofu has just 2 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fat per serving.
