Medically defined as the passage of loose, watery stools, diarrhea is a painful, intense condition for those who are unlucky enough to be stricken by it. Diet is one of the most critical factors that can make or break the body. Changing the diet can spare a diarrhea sufferer some severe problems. The trick is learning which foods can trigger a bout of diarrhea.
Too Hot To Trot!
Spicy foods--such as hot peppers, hot sauce, jalapenos or cayenne--can irritate the digestive system, so keep them to a minimum, especially if you are not used to them.
Lactose Is Not Everyone's Friend
Many people who get to middle age can no longer digest milk, which leaves cottage cheese off limits. Stick with products that lactose intolerant people can eat, such as yogurt.
Too much roughage can wreak havoc on the digestive system, especially if you are on a diet and have eaten nothing but cabbage soup for 5 days. Beans can also cause flatulence, so watch out for them, too.
Greasy Spoon Overload
Lack of fiber can cause diarrhea. Avoid fatty, fried and greasy foods whenever possible. Eating an abundance of these foods is not being friendly to your body.
Boozing It Up
Drinking too much alcohol can also cause problems, making the intestine unable to absorb as much water. Diarrhea can be a major result of a massive hangover.
Allergic to It
Allergies to specific foods can cause diarrhea. This can range from scrambled eggs to onions, depending on the person's constitution. For further reference, check with an allergist.
Getting blocked up is one thing, but celiac--or trouble with grains such as rye--can cause intestinal problems as well. Get tested by a doctor, but listen to your body, too.
