Frost Build Up in Freezers
Frost build up in your freezer means you have an old freezer or one that is not working properly. If you don't get rid of the frost build up in your freezer, your freezer won't be as efficient as it could be. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Causes
-
Frost build up in a freezer is caused by humid air inside the freezer. This can come from opening the freezer too often or putting warm, moist foods in it.
Identification
-
Frost build up is an icy coating on the interior walls of a freezer. Frost build up is thick and white. Scraping the build up with your fingernail will produce a snow-like substance.
-
Effects
-
If left unchecked, frost build up in your freezer will shrink the interior capacity of your freezer and cause it to run inefficiently.
Prevention/Solution
-
Defrost your freezer. Remove all items from the freezer, unplug it and wait for the frost build up to melt. Put towels in the bottom of the freezer to soak up water, and check periodically to remove chunks of frost build up that have fallen off.
Warning
-
Most freezers built after 1970 come with an auto-defrost system. If your freezer has auto-defrost and still has frost build up, you'll need to call a repair person to correct the problem.
