- Omega-3 fatty acids can strengthen your hair and add to its shine. Stock up on tuna, salmon, flax seed oil and oily nuts such as almonds and walnuts.
- Plain water is always good for you, and as an added benefit it keeps your hair looking supple and lustrous. Drink 7 to 8 cups a day.
- Vitamins B and C are great for hair growth and, believe it or not, hair color. You will find these vitamins in eggs, milk, fruits and vegetables.
- Hair is made up of a high percentage of protein. Supplement that protein by eating foods such as beef, pork, eggs, green vegetables and nuts.
- Calcium helps prevent hair loss and promotes healthy hair. Dairy products contain calcium, as do beans, fortified soy milk and fortified orange juice.
- Iron contributes to strong and healthy hair. Try some liver, or stick with more palatable choices such as lentils, green leafy vegetables, fish and meat. Ask your doctor to recommend an iron supplement.
