Ford Explorer SUVs

The Ford Explorer is a mid-sized SUV that has been in production since 1990. It was once one of the most popular SUV models in the world, and turned the SUV from a specialist vehicle into a regular, consumer-oriented automobile.

Location

All Ford Explorers are assembled at the Ford Motors plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

Engine and Mileage

There are two engines available: a 4.0-liter V-6 with 210hp, and a 4.6-liter V-8 with 292hp. They are rated at 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.

Transmission and Drive

The vehicle comes with either five- or six-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is not standard, but is available on some models.

Features

Electronic stability control and a tire pressure monitoring system come standard with the Ford Explorer. Power running boards are available, but optional.

Price Tag

Ford Explorers start at $26,995 as of early 2009.
