Healthy Blood Pressure During Pregnancy
High blood pressure during pregnancy can be a dangerous situation to both Mom and baby. It's important to maintain a healthy blood pressure during all nine months, to assist in normal development of the baby and keep Mom feeling well, too.
-
What's Normal?
-
During pregnancy a blood pressure of 120/80 is considered ideal. Most doctors will look also at what was normal for the mother pre-pregnancy to determine what will be normal during pregnancy.
What's Too High?
-
During pregnancy anything higher than 140/90 will cause your doctor some concern. Your doctor may recommend that you avoid certain salty foods and may request you take medication.
-
What's Too Low?
-
Doctors will generally worry about lower blood pressure in a pregnant woman if it begins to cause problems such as fainting or dizziness, or if the woman becomes dehydrated.
How to Keep Blood Pressure Normal
-
Stick with a normal workout routine, one approved by your doctor, as well as a healthy diet, to help maintain a healthy blood pressure.
See the Doctor
-
It is essential during pregnancy to see your doctor on a regular basis. Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure during each visit and will discuss any concerns he may have.
