- Ritalin is the most well-known form of methylphenidate drugs. Other methylphenidate drugs include Concerta, Focalin and Metadate. These are all stimulant medications for ADHD in pill form.
- Amphetamines are also stimulant drugs that work in a similar fashion to methylphenidate drugs. Amphetamines used to treat ADHD include Adderall, Dexedrine, Dextrostat and Vyvanse. These are also stimulant medications for ADHD that are available in pill form.
- Daytrana is a methylphenidate drug that is available in patch form. The patch's adhesive contains the medication, which the skin absorbs. Daytrana is a good alternative for children with ADHD who do not know how to swallow pills.
- Strattera, which is an atomoxetine drug, is a non-stimulant medication for children with ADHD. While Strattera works well for focus issues, it is generally not as effective for hyperactivity as the stimulant medications.
- Certain antidepressants, such as Wellbutrin, are used as medication for children with ADHD. Antidepressant medications are generally not as effective in treating ADHD symptoms as stimulant medications are.
