Household cleaning products are the products in your home that you use for cooking and disinfecting. These same products can clean your carpet, especially if the carpet is stained. There is no need to waste money on expensive cleaners. With a little ingenuity, you can keep your carpets clean.

    Dish Detergent

  1. Mix 1/4 cup of dish detergent with a gallon of water. Spray a 3 by 4 foot area. With a nylon brush, gently work the solution into the carpet. Dip a sponge in water, wring it out and blot the area to remove the residue. Move on to the next area.
  2. Baking Soda

  3. For quick cleaning and deodorizing, vacuum the carpet and then sprinkle it with baking soda. Let it set for 2 to 3 hours. Vacuum the baking soda.
  4. Ammonia

  5. To remove stains, mix 1/4 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of warm water. Put the solution in a spray bottle. Spray the stained or heavy traffick area. Blot the area with paper towels or a clean white cloth.
  6. Vinegar

  7. Vinegar works similar to ammonia. Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Spray the area and blot with paper towels or a cloth.
  8. Club Soda

  9. For stains, drip some club soda on the soiled area. Do not pour the soda on the carpet. Blot the area with paper towels or cloth.
