- Mix 1/4 cup of dish detergent with a gallon of water. Spray a 3 by 4 foot area. With a nylon brush, gently work the solution into the carpet. Dip a sponge in water, wring it out and blot the area to remove the residue. Move on to the next area.
- For quick cleaning and deodorizing, vacuum the carpet and then sprinkle it with baking soda. Let it set for 2 to 3 hours. Vacuum the baking soda.
- To remove stains, mix 1/4 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of warm water. Put the solution in a spray bottle. Spray the stained or heavy traffick area. Blot the area with paper towels or a clean white cloth.
- Vinegar works similar to ammonia. Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Spray the area and blot with paper towels or a cloth.
- For stains, drip some club soda on the soiled area. Do not pour the soda on the carpet. Blot the area with paper towels or cloth.
