Reasons to Recycle Glass

As many as 80 percent of all glass containers are returned to usefulness through recycling, clearly signaling that glass recycling is more than a fad for environmental enthusiasts. The reason for this is probably that, in addition to the benefit to the environment, recycling glass makes financial sense too.

    Significance

  1. Recycling keeps glass out of landfills where, because it is not exposed to natural erosion factors, it is estimated a glass container can take up to a million years to break down.
  2. Considerations

  3. Since recycled glass does not have to be heated to the same high temperatures required for making new glass from sand, recycling glass produces less pollution, is 40 percent more energy efficient and costs less than producing new glass.
  4. Features

  5. Glass does not lose any of its purity when it is recycled, so it can be recycled an unlimited number of times without compromising the quality of the product.
  6. Function

  7. Glass recycling is relatively simple and fast; a glass container can be recycled and returned to use within just 30 days.
  8. Benefits

  9. Unlike other natural resources, recycled glass can be returned to the environment, as sand for eroded beaches, or as tumbled glass gravel for landscape designs.
  10. Potential

  11. You can get cash back by turning in your whole glass containers for the redemption value, or selling your bulk glass to a recycling center.
