A humidifier can provide a number of health benefits to people who suffer from dry skin, sinusitis, itchy eyes and throat, cracked lips and other health problems caused by dryness. By humidifying the air, the humidifier counteracts the dryness created by turning up the heat.

    Types

  1. The two main types of humidifiers are warm and cool. Warm-air humidifiers are quieter and emit hot water into the air. Cool-air humidifiers use a fan to blow mist into the air. Ultrasonic humidifiers are the quietest of all.
  2. Coverage

  3. Humidifiers can be designed to humidify a room, several rooms or an entire house. Single-room humidifiers are cheap and easy to install. Whole-house humidifiers require a professional to install them as they are generally connected to a central heating system.
  4. Humidity Level

  5. Humidifiers with a humidity meter allow the user to set a desired humidity level. High humidity can cause mold and dust mite problems. The ideal humidity is between 30-50 percent.
  6. Potential Dangers

  7. Warm-air humidifiers release hot mist, which is dangerous for nosy pets and young children. Humidifiers should shut off automatically if the water level is too low or there is a risk of fire.
  8. Sinusitis

  9. Humidifiers are used as part of the treatment of sinusitis. The humidifier increases moisture in the nose and helps with mucus secretions.
  10. Dry Skin

  11. Dryness is caused by lack of water in the skin. The humidifier returns moisture to the air and will help protect the skin. Turning down the heat in the house helps too.
  12. Clean the humidifier

  13. It is essential to clean the humidifier filter. Otherwise, mold and bacteria breed in the humidifier and are spread through the air. This can aggravate allergies and asthma.
