Home Remedies for Earaches

Earaches are a relatively common condition, especially among young children. They are often caused by an ear infection, and are very uncomfortable and painful. There are a number of home remedies for earaches that you may use as a natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs.

  1. Garlic

    • Garlic

Crush or mince one garlic clove. Mix this with 2 tbsp. of olive oil and warm the mixture until it is comfortable to the touch. Use an eye dropper to put two to tree drops of the infused oil into the aching ear. Repeat as needed.

    Warmth

    • Hot water bottle

Aptly warm heat to the aching ear by pressing a warmed hot water bottle or warmed bag of rice to the ear. Alternatively, point a hair dryer on a low setting on the affected ear, moving it from side to side.

    Vinegar

    • Vinegar and water

Combine 1 tsp. white vinegar and 1 tsp. water, and put a few drops into the affected ear.

    Onion

    • Onion

Finely chop a quartered section of onion. Place the chopped onion in a garlic press to extract the juice. Put two to three drops into the aching ear. Repeat as needed.

    Yawn

    • Yawn

A clogged Eustachian tube may cause an earache. Yawn or swallow hard to unblock this Eustachian tube, which connects the middle ear to the throat.
