Health Benefits of Retinol

Retinol is more commonly known as vitamin A, an important nutrient that prevents overall health and affects the immune system, eyes, skin and other physical aspects. It is very important that retinol is part of a typical diet, especially when young, as deficiency of the vitamin has been known to contribute to blindness in children. Retinol is easy to consume, however, and is commonly found in fish, cream, sweet potatoes, various red and yellow vegetables and fruits, broccoli and similar sources.

  1. Immunity

    • Retinol improves immunity first by keeping mucous membranes moist, making it harder for disease causing cells to enter the body. It also increases the activity of the white blood cells, which helps the body fight off diseases that do end up in the body.

    Dentin

    • Retinol increases the formation of dentin. This forms just beneath the outer layer of teeth and bones, making them stronger.

    Vision

    • Retinol is very important in helping vision, and it does this in may different ways. It keeps eyes moist, aids in the strengthening of the retina, improves night blindness and helps prevent cataracts.

    Skin

    • Retinol is important in promoting healthy skin. It limits the production of sebum, which leads to acne problems, and improves the body's maintenance of the skin in general.

    Cholesterol

    • Retinol is important in lowering cholesterol. This helps to to protect against heart attacks and heart disease.

    Antioxidant

    • Retinol is a powerful antioxidant that helps to prevent damage by oxidizing free radicals. This helps to protect against many different forms of cancer.
