Forty-three men have served as President of the United States. Many of them had interesting traits and/or terms.

  1. Terms

    • William Henry Harrison held the shortest term of any U.S. President: one month. Franklin D. Roosevelt served for the longest: 12 years.

    History

    • Only one man, John Quincy Adams, served in Congress after completing his presidential term. Adams was elected to the House of Representatives in 1830.

    Assassinations

    • Four U.S. presidents--Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley and John F. Kennedy--have been assassinated.

    Fourth of July

    • Calvin Coolidge was born on the Fourth of July in 1872. Three presidents passed away on July 4. John Adams, the second president, died on July 4 in 1826, a few hours after Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president, passed on. Fifth president James Monroe also died on July 4, in 1831.

    • James A. Garfield, the 20th president, could write with both hands--at the same time.

    Requirements

    • The President of the United States must be at least 35 years old. He or she must also have resided in the United States for at least 14 years.
