With digital cameras getting better and cheaper every year, it is easier than ever to begin a career in digital photography. All you need is a good camera, some photo editing software, tenacity and a bit of know-how. And, unlike many jobs, this is a career where it's easier to work for yourself than for someone else: Department of Labor statistics show that more than 50 percent of all photographers are self-employed.

  1. Portrait photography is one of the most common types of digital photography, in large part because so many people want photos of themselves or loved ones. Portrait photography includes family portraits, senior photos, team photos and author portraits, and can be done at a studio or on location.

  9. Courts, lawyers and law enforcement offices all need photographs of case evidence. For a digital photographer with an interest in the justice system, evidence and legal photography may be the perfect career.
  10. Real Estate

  11. Real estate agents and companies need photographs of the homes and properties they sell. This may be the perfect digital photography career for someone interested in houses or architecture.
  12. Product

  13. Local businesses and major companies all need good images of the products they sell. A digital photographer who is good at bringing inanimate objects to life will excel in this career.
