Type 2 Diabetes is a serious disease that occurs when the body becomes less sensitive to its own insulin, resulting in insulin resistance. Doctors believe that Type 2 Diabetes is caused by obesity, inactivity, and/or genetics. If you have any of the following signs, consult your doctor and ask for a fasting blood sugar test or an oral glucose tolerance test.

    Tingling Fingers or Toes

  1. Tingling or itching fingers or toes are often caused by extremely high blood sugar levels. This is an early sign of one of the most dangerous complications of Type 2 Diabetes, neuropathy, which is a leading cause of amputations.
  2. Extreme Thirst

  3. A prolonged period of excessive thirst is one of the early warning signs of Type 2 diabetes.
  4. Frequent Urination

  5. Frequent urination is also an early warning sign of Type 2 diabetes and may be directly related to excessive thirst.
  6. Constant Fatigue

  7. Elevated blood sugar levels drain the body of energy and cause extreme fatigue. People who feel abnormally fatigued for an extended period of time should consult their doctors and ask for an oral glucose tolerance test.
  8. Blurred Vision

  9. Abnormally high blood sugar levels affect the micro-veins in the eyes and cause blurred vision.
  10. Warning

  11. In some cases, none of these early warning signs occur in a person who has Type 2 Diabetes. If one or both of your parents have or had this condition, you may want to have an annual physical that includes a blood glucose test.
