About Civil Ceremony Wedding Programs

Putting together a program for a civil wedding ceremony can be a challenge. However, they are wonderful keepsakes and inform your guests of what they can look forward to during your special day.

Wedding programs tell guests who is involved in the ceremony and the order and type of events in the ceremony (readings, etc.).

Considerations

Civil ceremonies are often simpler than religious ceremonies, with fewer prayers or rituals, so you might not have as many details to share. Consider including the text of any poems or passages that will be read at the ceremony, a special note welcoming guests or information on how you met the people who are serving in honor roles (like bridesmaids or groomsmen) at your wedding.

However, if you choose to include some rituals, like a handfasting or other unity candle, you may want to explain the significance.

Types

You can have a lot of fun with programs---some people print them onto fans, others make them into booklets or simply print out a single sheet. You can use the same motifs and fonts that were used on the wedding invitations.

Features

Most programs include the names of the couple and the wedding date, the names of any readings or songs and the names of the people who are performing in the ceremony. Anything else you want to include is up to you!
