- The most common early symptom of diabetes is excessive thirst. High blood sugar levels cause the body to crave fluids.
- The second most common early diabetes symptom is frequent urination. Excessive thirst causes more fluid intake, and subsequently causes extremely frequent urination.
- Another early symptom is blurred vision. High blood sugar levels cause damage to the small veins in the eyes, and therefore effect vision. Because the blood sugar levels are constantly changing, the blurred vision is inconsistent and unpredictable.
- Extreme fatigue or dizziness is another early symptom of diabetes. If you feel abnormally tired or dizzy, ask your doctor to test your blood glucose levels.
- An increased level of infections is also an early symptom. High blood glucose levels make wound healing harder for diabetics and therefore increase the chances of infection.
- If you have one or more of the above early warning signs of diabetes, see your doctor and ask for an Oral Glucose Tolerance test or a Fasting Blood Glucose test.
