When traveling internationally, it is crucial to know about airline rules and regulations in order to avoid holdups at the airport. Before you fly internationally, be sure to check the regulations for your specific airline. This is particularly important because airlines have changed their policies based on economic conditions, and rules may be different.

From Quick Guide: Travel Rules & Regulations

    Passports

  1. The most important document you must have to comply with international flight regulations is a passport; this is required for travel to most countries around the world. It serves as your legal documentation.
  2. Customs

  3. When flying internationally, you should check the customs regulations for your destination. They may prohibit you from bringing certain items into the country.
  4. Baggage

  5. On most coach-class international flights, passengers are allowed to take two pieces of checked luggage and one piece of carry-on luggage in addition to a purse or laptop case. Be sure to check with your airline for specific weight limits.
  6. Time Frame

  7. Most airlines state that you should arrive at the airport two to three hours before your flight in order to give you time to clear security and customs.
  8. Warning

  9. New travel rules state that passengers can take liquids or gels in their carry-on bags, but only if they are in three ounce or less bottles. They must be in a single, one-quart clear plastic bag.
  10. Considerations

  11. Although it may seem obvious, passengers may not carry on knives, guns or any other sharp objects that may be used as weapons, including scissors. Even nail clippers may get confiscated.
