Carfax reports, known in the industry as Carfax Vehicle History Reports, are used by dealers and consumers to identify the condition of a used vehicle. The reports are issued by by Carfax, Inc. and are available for a fee on used cars and light trucks manufactured after 1981. Carfax can access more than five billion records to generate their report based on the vehicle identification number assigned to each individual automobile.
