Dark circles under the eyes have plagued women for eons. However, dark circles are not limited to the female gender. Men are prone to the problem as well. While there are many causes for dark eye circles that are completely harmless, you should seek a doctor if the darkness is only under one eye. Treating dark circles under the eyes just takes a little common sense.

    Heredity

  1. Some people just have thinner skin than others. This allows the blood flow under the eye to be seen more readily.
  2. Sleep

  3. Being fatigued causes the skin under the eye to pale, thus allowing the blood flow under the skin to be seen. Get plenty of sleep, which will darken the skin under the eye in a good way.
  4. Diet

  5. Drink plenty of water and eat right. A poor diet can contribute to dark circles under the eyes.
  6. Colds & Allergies

  7. Nasal congestion causes veins to dilate, creating a darkening effect around the nose and eyes. Apply a cool compress to temporarily help eliminate dilated veins, lessening the dark circles.
  8. Aging

  9. Getting older contributes to a thinning of the skin, contributing to darkened areas under the eyes. Cover up dark circles with a concealer.
