The 1930s surprise proposal American divorcee Wallis Simpson received was given after a simple dinner invitation by King Edward VII, who ultimately gave up his kingdom to marry her, the woman he truly loved.

The singer Seal proposed to model Heidi Klum on top of a glacier, surprising her at a custom built igloo, while Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling took a horse drawn carriage ride through a tree farm in Canada where he surprised her by proposing at a table surrounded by decorated trees--both proposals occurred at Christmas time.

Types

There are many types of proposals, from the man including his (and her) parents, hiding them nearby at a restaurant to share the news with an intimate family celebration, to a potential groom giving his fiancee his own hand crafted gift, such as a chest or jewelry box with the engagement ring nestled inside, while they soared over their childhood town in a hot air balloon.
