- A smaller drywall repair can be fixed with paper or mesh tape and joint compound; a larger hole needs a cut-to-fit piece of drywall affixed, followed by joint compound or drywall mud to fill in the cracks.
- Sanding down the area being repaired, both before starting as well as after the joint compound dries, makes the finished drywall patching job smooth and seamless.
- Quickset drywall mud sets in as little as 10 minutes, regular joint compound should be allowed to dry for 6 to 10 hours, depending upon the humidity in the room.
- Patching a hole in drywall allows a small area to be repaired without having to replace the entire sheet of drywall.
- A mask should always be worn over the mouth and nose during the sanding process, as the inhalation of drywall dust has been linked with serious lung problems such as scarring (silicosis), bronchitis and lung cancer.
