You know you are supposed to rotate the tires on your vehicle, but why and when? Once you get the straight facts on tire rotation, you're more likely to add it to your car maintenance schedule.

    Benefits

  1. Rotating the tires on a vehicle extends the life of the tires and ensures safer handling.
  2. Time Frame

  3. Tires should be rotated every 5,000 to 10,000 miles, or as recommended by your vehicle's owner's manual.
  4. Effects

  5. Rotating a vehicle's tires evens out the wear between the front and back tires (front tires wear out faster), so that your tires don't wear out prematurely.
  6. Considerations

  7. Not all tires can be rotated from side to side and front to back. Follow the recommendations set forth by the tire manufacturer.
  8. Warning

  9. If you decide to do the job yourself, be sure to secure the car with jack stands.
  10. Expert Insight

  11. When you rotate your tires, take a few extra minutes to check the pressure of each tire, measure the tread and look for unusual wear.
