Car paint is particularly heat-resistant and good for protecting against the elements. Available from car part shops and home supply stores, it can also be used to paint grills or any other items that will be exposed to the elements for long periods of time.

From Quick Guide: Car Facts 101

    Types

  1. There are basically two types of car paint: metallic and pearl. You may not be aware of the difference at first view, although pearl paint tends to have a light sheen to it, especially under sunlight.
  2. Function

  3. Car paint is not only an aesthetic add-on. It also protects the car body from the elements, preventing rust and oxidation.
  4. Warning

  5. Car paint streaks easily, which makes it harder to apply by any method other than spraying.
  6. Considerations

  7. Chipping car paint should be repaired as soon as possible, as it allows humidity and dirt particles to get in between the coat of paint and the body of the car. This causes further damage that may not be obvious to the eye for some time.
  8. Expert Insight

  9. Paint protection is a galvanization or coat of zinc applied over car paint to protect it from certain elements, especially snow and salt.
  10. Time Frame

  11. Car paint dries significantly faster than other types of paint.
