Organic Mosquito Repellent & Geraniums

If you equally dislike mosquito bites and the thought of smearing chemicals on your skin, you need an organic mosquito repellent. You can create your own using rose geranium plants or their oils. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Rose Geraniums

    • In South Africa, rose geraniums have a long history of use as natural mosquito repellents. The plants emit a pungent odor when their leaves are bruised. Mosquitoes actively avoid the plants and their juices. Rose geranium essential oil also repels mosquitoes.

    Uses

    • Plant rose geraniums around your home to help deter mosquitoes. When you go outside, pluck a few leaves and crush them in your hands. Rub the leaves and juices on your skin to create an organic repellent. For your pets, place a few drops of rose geranium essential oil on a fabric collar to create an organic mosquito repellent collar.

    Considerations

    • Rose geraniums also repel fleas and ticks. If you create an organic repellent collar for a pet, remember to add a few drops of oil to the fabric every week or so. That will keep the odor strong and the repellent properties potent.
