When the restoration begins, more care can be taken finding the best contractor. The house and property has to be protected, and work needs to begin on cleanup immediately.
Mortgage, Insurance and Financing

Let the bank that holds the mortgage know about the fire. The mortgage company will be involved until the house is restored. Find out what the insurance policies cover and get it in writing. Obtain the necessary forms to document fire damage and losses; the restoration contractor can help. Check with your bank about financing for additional costs that may arise.

It's the owner's responsibility to secure the house against further damage and possible injury. Be aware of potential health hazards from the fire and materials and processes of the restoration work.
