On one of my latest window shopping excursions, I spotted a distressed cropped denim jacket and thought it was such a fun new take on a classic. Instead of paying the price for a pre-cut coat, I grabbed a jean jacket out of my closet and used a couple techniques to get the frayed edge look. The ladylike silhouette with a distressed unfinished hem strikes the perfect balance between classic and edgy — my favorite style! Read on to find out how to give your denim a DIY makeover.
Step 1: Mark where you want to cut the collar and sleeves.
Step 2: Cut off your sleeves, collar and waistband.
Step 3: With the razor, make small vertical cuts around the neckline, sleeves and bottom of the jacket.
Step 4: Rub the edges with sandpaper to loosen the threads, until you reach the desired amount of fray.
After each wash, the edges will fray more.
Wear casually over a sweatshirt or style it up over a summer dress!
