Valentine’s Day is such a kid-friendly holiday.  Hearts, decorations, tender cards and notes – what’s not to love?  Except, maybe, the sugar overload.

Today, we’re sharing a sweet treat you can whip up for–or, even better, with–your little ones.  These jumbo versions of the classic conversation heart are made only of fruit and yogurt, which means they’re quick, easy and wholesome. They’re also fun, colorful and quite tasty.

Trust us, with these cool desserts on-hand, your kids will be completely satisfied and you’ll feel good about making a healthier choice.

To make your own jumbo conversation hearts you’ll need to pick up some small alphabet cookie cutters as well as a few silicon heart molds. This time of year both are widely available.  We found ours at our local grocery store.  If you don’t have luck there, check out any big box craft store.

To begin, slice up some of your favorite fruit; we used cantaloupe, honeydew melon and strawberries. Then, pick a few conversation heart platitudes and start cutting out the letters you need.

Side note: Kids think this part is super fun, making this a great Valentine’s Day activity.

Once your letters are ready to go, it’s time to make some hearts.  Line a plate, baking sheet or whatever else will fit in your freezer with some wax paper. (This step isn’t critical but it does make for easier removal of the hearts once they’re frozen.)

Place your heart molds on your plate and fill with the yogurt of your choice.  Blended varieties work best as they tend to have more color.  We used strawberry, blackberry and peach flavors.

Finally, spell out your messages of love and stick it all in the freezer.  Your hearts should be set in 45 to 60 minutes.
