When it comes to prepping your home for sale, it can be difficult to figure out what a buyer will and won’t like about your place. Deciding where to even begin can seem like a daunting task. Let’s use this bathroom as our guinea pig for today’s experiment…

A pretty nice transformation, huh? Agreed, but let’s break down this bathroom redesign (on a budget, I might add!) and see why it works for prepping a home for a speedy sale.

Paint Makes Pretty…
There is no doubt that the before shot was a tad on the dated side. Nothing like a few coats of paint to bring a space one giant leap closer to the 21st century. The soothing wall color sets the scene for a spa-like atmosphere, while giving the cabinets a darker finish adds a contemporary edge and much needed contrast to the vanity.

Keep It Crisp…
Fresh white towels and accessories work wonders for keeping a bathroom feeling fresh. When asked, 99% of buyers say they want their future bathroom to feel, first and foremost, clean…True confession: I may have made up the 99% part, but based on my experience, I’d stand by that statistic if my life depended on it.

Accessorize…Sort of…
Keep bathroom decor and accessories to a minimum to show off counter space. My rule of thumb: no more than three items on the counter while your house is on the market. Don’t try to sneak in a fourth. Keep it simple…Yes, I do realize the photo above exceeds my strict limits, but this house is not currently for sale. You can sleep easy knowing that when it is, I’ll enforce my rule of three to the highest degree.
