Project Bedroom

I have always wanted a cozy and inviting bedroom. Just one year ago, my husband and I bought our 1937 home in Hollywood. After emergency plumbing repairs and general renovations around the house, our bedroom remains largely bare.

My decorating pedigree is impeccable. My mother is so well put together she has curtains on the windows in the garage. At my parents’ house, the closets are wall-papered. But my husband’s idea of crazy decor is to paint our bedroom walls Antique White rather than Droplets, and I have trouble figuring out what to do with all the white walls.

Looking for design ideas, I noticed that a great looking bedroom can come from as little as a few well-curated areas. For instance, a simple but well-staged bedside table gives personality to this bedroom.

For the dresser, a couple of interesting items grouped together can make a knockout display. On her blog, designer Kelly Hicks included a group of inspiration photos for her own bedroom that includes this bedroom in which romantic blues are combined with soft whites for an inviting look.

Several eHow articles agree, small bedrooms look better with less clutter and less furniture. Feng shui can help improve the flow of our room, no matter which decor style we adopt.

All good ideas. Now I need to declutter the space and make use of a couple of beautiful pieces my husband and I received for our wedding to make our bedroom warm, cozy, and undoubtedly ours.

How have you personalized your own bedroom?
