Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Silver Or Gold Kilt Pins
- Sporran
- Tartan Kilts
- pair red, blue or green flashes
- Pair Kilt Hose
- Waistcoat
- Pair Ghillie Brogues
Step1
Understand the difference between a "great kilt," which is not sewn but draped, and a Scottish (or English kilt), which wraps on with sewn pleats. Here, we work with the sewn or "small kilt."
Step2
Close the kilt by taking the right apron through the hole of the left buckle and fastening it to the left buckle.
Step3
Fasten the left apron to the right; the fringed edge and kilt pin should be to the right.
Step4
Make sure that your kilt falls to the center of the knee, sitting exactly on the natural waist.
Step5
Make sure pleats are at the back of the kilt.
Step6
Strap on the sporran about three fingers below your waistcoat or belt. The strap fastens in the back.
Step7
Wear kilt hose folded two to three fingers below kneecap.
Step8
Place flashes on the outside of the leg, covering the strap with the fold of the sock top.
Step9
Lace the ghillie brogues this way: cross laces and pull into simple knot. Twist three times and pull tight again to create a thong. Pass laces around ankle back, bring to front and tie a bow, letting laces and toggles hang in front.

on 4/28/2008 When I was a boy we were given girls bottle green or navy blue school knickers to wear under our kilts mainlt because boys under wear was always white and the girls knickers came in colours that tended to blend in with the colours of the kilt.

on 8/9/2007 What would be the point of freeing yourself from idiotic bifurcated clothing better suited to a woman or surfboard-rider (pants and shorts) and then putting on underwear? If you are wearing the Kilt, and you've still got your knickers on, (and you're not otherwise in some kind of extremely cold weather condition) perhaps its the knickers that appeal to you, and showing a bit kind of helps you...go. Know what I mean, eh? *nudge *nudge* *nod* *nod* *wink* *wink*

on 8/8/2006 Don't put to much store by people who say you must go without underwear. If you want to wear the kilt and are uncomfortable setting forth with nothing underneath, wear something. As long as you feel comfortable what does it matter what others say. However if you do wear something try to have something that is a dark color or a color that matches the main color of your kilt.
