Tidy up garage shelves and tables with this hanging organizer made from baby food jars. Fill jars with nuts, bolts and washers for easy access. The baby food jar organizer also works well in your sewing room or in the pantry to hold buttons, nails and other small items.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Baby Food Jars
  • 2-by-4 Boards
  • Drill Bits
  • Pan Head Screws
  • Screwdriver Sets
  • Variable-speed Drills

Step1
Take a shelf off its hooks or out of the shelving unit if possible.
Step2
Place the shelf on your work surface.
Step3
Turn the shelf over, making sure the underside faces up.
Step4
Place a baby food jar lid on the shelf with the top of the lid against the shelf.
Step5
Screw two ½-inch pan head screws through each lid into the shelf.
Step6
Leave a 2-inch space between the lids.
Step7
Continue mounting lids to the underside of the shelf.
Step8
Return the shelf to the shelving unit in its proper position (the lids will be on the bottom of the shelf).
Step9
Fill the jars.
Step10
Screw the jars into the lids. The jars will hang down from the bottom of the shelf.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure lids fit tightly on jars.
  • Mount a piece of 2-by-4 toward the back of shelf and attach lids for more than one row of jars.
  • Attach an old lazy Susan under a shelf or table. Follow above directions to attach lids to lazy Susan for easy access.
