With a little practice - and the right shoes - you can glide down the aisle with grace and elegance.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Buy a dress that fits you well.
Step2
Shop for comfortable pumps, stacked heels, flats or slippers. Avoid high heels.
Step3
Scuff the soles of those slippery new shoes using sandpaper or a kitchen knife.
Step4
Maintain good posture - head high and shoulders back! This way, the dress hangs on you correctly instead of getting in your way.
Step5
Grasp the sides of your dress and pull them up a bit when climbing stairs.
Step6
Bustle the train with hooks, snaps or buttons - if you don't have a detachable train - so that you can move around at the reception.
Step7
Slip on that dress and shoes, and practice walking and dancing at home. Get a feel for how the dress fits and moves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider purchasing cushioned insoles for extra walking comfort.

on 8/8/2006 Scholl's party feet are a lifesaver. They come in gel insoles, heel shields, even slingback strips. You can also get blister pads that you can put in areas of your shoes that bug you the most. The best part of it all is that they are
a) reusable and
b) washable.
They are great for any time, being a bridesmaid or a bride and dancing all night!

on 8/8/2006 See if you can find a pair of white/ivory shoes that you already own and know to be comfortable and trustworthy for your big day. If that cannot be done (due to discontinuation) look for something by the same company that made your most comfortable heels.

on 6/30/2006 Wear your fancy shoes for the ceremony and switch to white slippers for the reception. Ideally, get cheap slippers for your bridesmaids, too, so not only will they be comfortable as well, you won't feel silly wearing slippers on your own. Most brides end up ditching their shoes anyway, so this is more sanitary/comfortable. If you do get them for your bridesmaids, it is a relatively inexpensive gift you can give them - stick it in a tote bag with a few other useful bridesmaid goodies. They may also use it again (unlike that dress you made them buy).

on 6/30/2006 Practice walking around in your shoes a few hours a day the week before your wedding. You don't need to wear the whole outfit to get the feel of the shoes, though trying the whole thing out once or twice before the big day is a decent idea.

on 11/22/2005 I'm having a medieval wedding, and couldn't find sandals that fit the dress. So barefoot it is!
