Some dogs give off a natural odor you may not find to your liking. Other dogs give off strong odors when not bathed or when wet. Still other dogs, spread odors around a home if they go to the bathroom indoors without your knowledge. Porous fabrics and furnishings absorb odors from dogs more than hard surfaces, so you may notice a distinct dog smell on your couches, chairs and other furniture. Deodorize your furniture regularly so you can enjoy clean, fresh furnishings.
New furniture often gives off a varnish odor or another type of offensive smell that is called "off-gassing." This occurs when the volatile organic compounds in the furniture evaporate. The compounds may result from varnish, staining solutions and other chemical treatments of the cloth or construction materials. Sometimes these odors cause headaches, shortness of breath, dizziness and other symptoms in people sensitive to the odors. The smell vanishes on its own over time, but there are ways you can speed up the process.
Dog urine can ruin many things, such as grass and carpets. Luckily, dog urine does not ruin leather and can be removed along with the odor it leaves behind. Leather shoes or leather furniture that a dog has urinated on can leave a musty smell behind when it dries, but good leather will not actually absorb the urine nor will it soak though. Leather tends to repel liquids, including urine, so most of it will be around the leather that was urinated on rather then the actual leather item.
Dogs are wonderful pets to own, but they can oftentimes leave a lingering odor on furniture that is quite unpleasant. A wet dog smell on furniture can make the entire room, and perhaps even the entire house, fill up with an unpleasant odor. This can be embarrassing when guests come over and bothersome to the pet owner as well. Getting rid of the wet dog smell in your furniture will keep your entire home smelling fresh.
