  • The Best Diets for Prediabetics

Prediabetes is a condition that occurs when there are high levels of glucose in the blood. This high level of glucose is not high enough for a diagnosis of type II diabetes. This condition is usually a precursor to diabetes, but you can turn it around with a healthier lifestyle. Losing weight is the first step to lowering glucose levels and managing your condition.

  • Diet for Prediabetes

In their conference held in Washington, DC, July 21 to 22, 2008, the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) examined the status of prediabetes. Their statement cites statistics indicating an estimated 24.1 million people in the United States are afflicted with diabetes with an additional 57 million people suffering from prediabetes. Dietary changes are among the recommended options for treating prediabetes to delay or prevent its transition to diabetes.

  • What Are Prediabetic Diets?

Prediabetes is a medical condition in which blood glucose levels are high, but not high enough to qualify as full-blown type 2 diabetes. However, with proper diet, exercise, and, sometimes, medication prediabetes can be curbed and progression to type 2 diabetes prevented. The term prediabetic diet refers to low-carb or low-glycemic diets that control blood sugar levels by increasing protein intake and eliminating sugar from the diet.
