Does a Bachelor Degree Help in Becoming an Army Ranger?

  1. Technically, No

    • According to Military.com, the educational qualifications to become an army ranger are only a high school diploma or GED. Other qualifications include being 18 years of age, being a United States citizen and passing the Army Physical Fitness Test. A security clearance is also required.

    Certainly Can't Hurt

    • A bachelor's degree cannot hurt your chances either. Pursuing something you are interested in before joining the Army Ranger program could help you pass the additional two tests required for ranger status. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and the General Technical test must be passed at a certain level to become a Ranger. The ASVAB covers arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension and mathematics, all which are helped by a college education.

    Bottom Line

    • Given the additional testing required to become a ranger, a bachelor's degree would not be detrimental in achieving a goal of becoming an Army Ranger. Should you desire the fastest path, avoid college and take prep classes for the required testing.
