Unemployment Benefits Are Extensive.

As of August 2010, residents of Arizona are eligible for 99 weeks of unemployment insurance. Citizens can receive between $60 and $240 per week, based on the amount of money they were making in the job that they lost. Prior to 2009, Arizona residents could receive only 26 weeks of unemployment.

You Must Meet Certain Conditions.

Only residents who have been laid off from their jobs through no fault of their own are eligible for unemployment benefits. In order to continue receiving unemployment benefits, residents of Arizona must continue to be available for work, search for work and be willing to take an available position for which they are qualified.

Bottom Line

The deepening of what has been called the Great Recession affected the terms of receiving unemployment in Arizona. Congress passed a series of bills extending the length of time to 99 weeks for all eligible U.S. citizens, including those unemployed residents in Arizona, to receive benefits.
