Should I Join the Navy or Marines?
-
Joining the Navy
-
As the group most responsible for the defense and preservation of the Untied States' territory at sea, the majority of the Navy's careers involve serving in or in support of maritime occupations. Sailors in the Navy may be required to spend prolonged time on a ship at sea and are responsible for engaging in naval warfare, should the need arise.
Joining the Marine Corps
-
Originally specializing in amphibious land assaults, the Marines have gained the reputation of being elite ground soldiers who are often the first sent into a conflict. Although Marines can spend some time at sea, a majority of their operations take place on land.

Bottom Line
-
Deciding between serving in the Navy or the Marine Corps is not a clear cut decision. Applicants should evaluate their own goals and interests prior to making a decision. Those more interested in maritime occupations and being at sea, should consider joining the Navy. Those more enthused about participating in land warfare, should consider the Marine Corps.
