How Far Should a Chandelier Hang From a Table?
-
Traditional Ceiling
-
In dining rooms with traditional 8-foot ceilings, hang the chandelier so its bottom is suspended about 30 to 34 inches above the surface of the table. This allows enough space for centerpieces and clear visual lines across the table, while still providing enough lighting.
High Ceiling
-
Rooms with especially high ceilings may look out of proportion if the chandelier is too low. Hang the chandelier an additional 3 inches above the table for every foot of ceiling height above 8 feet. For example, with 10-foot ceilings, hang the chandelier 36 to 40 inches above the table.

Bottom Line
-
The base of a chandelier should hang no less than 30 inches above the surface of a table. Chandeliers may hang higher in rooms with taller ceilings to keep the visual proportions of the room appealing.
