Is CCR Better Than CPR?
-
Cardio-Cerebral Resuscitation
-
Cardio-cerebral resuscitation has been proven to work better than cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in cases which a person goes into cardiac arrest. The difference between the two is that with CCR you don't have to stop giving chest compressions to give the patient rescue breathing. According to WebMD, adults have enough oxygen in their bloodstream to survive as long as compressions are necessary. It is more important to get pre-existing oxygen in the blood to the heart and brain than it is to get more oxygen into the body.

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
-
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation is still important. It is necessary to use CPR in cases where the person has gone into respiratory arrest as opposed to cardiac arrest. This is especially important when dealing with injured children because they are more likely to be under respiratory arrest than cardiac arrest. The difference between CCR and CPR is that rescue breathing is coupled with chest compressions in CPR.
Bottom Line
-
In order to choose which method to apply you must know if the person is under cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. According to WebMD, a majority of the time an adult collapses, cardiac arrest is the culprit. Also most of the time a young child (younger than 8) collapses, it is highly unlikely to be cardiac arrest and CPR should be used.
