How Many Waxworms Should I Feed My Leopard Gecko?
-
Waxworms Are High In Fat
-
Waxworms have a high level of fat, so much so that having them as a regular part of your gecko's diet may be unhealthy. They are often described as "junk food for geckos" so think of them just as you would think of any high fat, high calorie food.

Waxworms Provide Needed Fat
-
Because waxworms are so high in fat, they are sometimes very important to the health of your gecko, such as when it is underweight, sick or after a female has laid eggs. In these cases, adding them as a more regular part of the diet until your gecko has returned to health is advisable.
Bottom Line
-
In general, waxworms should be used more as an occasional treat than a main part of the healthy gecko diet. For a healthy leopard gecko, you can feed 3 or 4 wax worms three times a week. For an ill or underweight gecko or a breeding female, you can feed slightly more each meal or more often each week until they reach the appropriate size, then return to the normal feeding amount. Do be sure to provide a variety of food sources that meet all the nutritional needs of your gecko.
