Stocks are also easy to follow, since their values can be tracked on a minute-by-minute basis. They generally gain over time, though the increase may be gradual. Stocks can also drop--sometimes quickly and steeply, leaving the investor with less money.

Land value is not as easy to track, but it almost always increases in value over time. As populations rise, the amount of available land shrinks, making it a dwindling commodity and thereby adding to its demand. Properties can be researched to determine their viability, eliminating the need for the kind of "speculation" used in the stock market.

Investing in land is a sure-fire way to get a decent return. If properly researched and assessed, a parcel of land can make an investor a nice profit over a five or 10-year span, and more over longer periods. Stocks come with more risk, though they have the potential to gain equity more quickly than land.
