How Much Should I Tip a Delivery Driver?

15 percent is Customary

For average service that meets expectations, 15 percent is normally due to the delivery driver. Though some people are unaware that you should tip your driver, they rely on these tips just like wait staff. Some restaurants even apply a "delivery fee" which is often mistaken for the tip; drivers almost never receive this fee.

Tip According to Service

For exceptional service, you should tip your driver 20 percent. Poor service should earn only a 10 percent tip and very poor service should earn nothing. If a driver delivers your food in extreme weather conditions or you are very far away, feel free to add an extra dollar or two to the tip to show your appreciation.

Use your judgment. Just like with waitresses, hairstylists and baristas, tip your delivery driver whatever feels right for you. But always remember that delivery drivers provide an important service and you should recognize that with a gratuity.
