Dry powdered milk must be kept in a cool, dry place. The container it is stored in should be opaque in order to not let any light in. Light, heat and moisture all can contribute to the breakdown of the vitamins and minerals in milk. If stored correctly, powdered milk should last a year and a half.

Improper Storage

Because powdered milk is essentially a dairy product that has changed in composition, it should be treated as such. If not stored properly, the rich vitamin A and D content will break down and the powdered milk will become ineffective and more prone to bacteria growth.

You can store powdered milk in a clean, opaque, cool and dry place for up to 18 months. If the product comes from a store in packaging that differs from this, modify the packaging to create an environment that is best for the nutrients in the powdered milk.
