How Tight Should Leggings Fit?

If They're Too Big ...

If your leggings are too big or made of fabric that is not stretchy and recoverable, the leggings will sag on you and not look good. Leggings are supposed to be form-fitting and constructed of a clingy material, such as spandex or knitted cotton.

If They're Too Small ...

Generally, leggings have elastic waistbands. Choose the correct size based on the inseam, waistline and length. If the inseam is not long enough, the waistline will be too low and you will spend a lot of time pulling up drooping leggings. The crotch area will also ride up on you, which is uncomfortable. If the leggings are simply too short, then you have definitely purchased the wrong size. If the leggings are too small and too tight, they are going to be extremely unpleasant to wear. Leggings should be form-fitting but not cut off your circulation.

Bottom Line

Ideally, leggings should fit you much as a pair of footless tights would; however, leggings are a different material than tights so the feel and fit will not be the same.
